The State of Her Hairs

Gracie's hair has become difficult. The longer it gets, the tighter it curls. The tighter it curls, the harder it is to comb out. The crown of her head, where those first baby curls appeared, has become a pain. Literally.

Every morning, I HAVE to comb her hair or it will be a matted rat's nets for the rest of the day. When she sees the comb, she runs away screeching.

Even though I grease her head with cream conditioner before I attempt to comb it. It still hurts.

So this was our solution.

This salon specializes in curly hair.

Claudia let me hold Gracie and gave her a sucker, then OILED Gracie's head. Not even joking. But it was perfect. The comb slid straight through all those curls I've been hacking at.

Gracie actually relaxed so much during the cut, I thought she might fall asleep. (Definitely the best cuddle I 've gotten out of her in a looooooong time.) And the results were a relief. We can let her hair grow-out now, with much less maintenance, and hopefully a lot less product.

Little Man, Big week

Last Sunday evening, Michael leaned over and said to me, "tomorrow morning, we'll be walking our baby boy to kindergarten." Up until that point, I hadn't let it sink in. With moving to Texas, and unpacking boxes, and orchestra auditions coming up, there were plenty of other things to think about.

Now that a week has passed, it's a reality. Jonah is a kindergartner.

The night before school, I realized he was sleeping with his new lunchbox. In the morning when I woke him up, Little Puppy was asleep in the lunchbox, head on a tooth-fairy pillow, covered in a burp cloth.

This is the precious little boy we walked to school that day.

crating the kids

I guess this is what you play with when all your toys are packed in boxes.

Bless her heart.

Students

My violin students have become a big part of Gracie's and Jonah's lives. I don't have many pictures of my students, because I'm always busy teaching when they're here. Regardless, they have played with, and entertained my children since Jonah was 10 months old.

I started my student, Dakarai, when he was FOUR. He's nine now. Jonah used to call him "Kah-wee".

My students, Joey and Johnny, taught Jonah how to crawl through a tunnel. Gracie calls both of them "Bubba". They are honorary brothers, I guess.

Gracie runs off with Emma's shoes every single lesson. (They have the same taste in shoes.) Gracie was first inspired to fiddle around on her 1/32 size violin after watching Emma practice a Seitz concerto.

Nancy and Ellen are sisters, and a couple of my older students. They are always so calm with the kids and natural teachers. Somehow, I DO have pictures with them (and their mom, Sue), and I will cherish them!

We are going to miss these special people in Arizona!

Rock On

Jonah's first hero (besides Daddy) was Tim, our worship minister at church. He inspired Jonah to "rock on" and love all things electric guitar ;)

Tim and Kristin have had a horrid year. I mean, reeeeeeally terrible. (Hence the picture of Tim in a cast).

But, finally a blessing for this sweet couple!

Baby Joshua was born this past week on Tuesday, August 3, 2010.

And, p.s. we are moving to Texas in the next two weeks. Terrible timing for us, but still, so so SO happy for them!

Jonah picked out 2 rock n' roll onesies for baby Josh. One that says, "rock on" (of course), and the other with a sock monkey smashing a guitar.

We are going to miss Tim, Kristin, and Baby Joshua, to the moon and back.
