Jonah has never had to start a morning without a cup of OJ. But this morning, we were out. Not even a sip of juice in the house.
At 6:40 am, I had to break the bad news to a bleary-eyed four year old standing by my side of the bed.
He processed the news. Then his face contorted, and I heard a pathetic wailing,
"Now I will not have anything orange-y OR juicyyyyyy!"

Shoeaholic in the Making
Gracie loves to play dress-up in other people's shoes. It started with my flip flops, then progressed to Daddy's tennis shoes. A few weeks ago, she ran off with one of my student's shoes during their lesson.
I was dressing for a gig last weekend, and had to comb the backyard to find my missing sequined pointy-toe mule.
Usually, Gracie gets frustrated that she can't keep big-people's shoes ON. Last week, however, she discovered my peep-toe pumps.
Her tiny toes wedge perfectly into the tips of these 2.5" heels, and she balances beautifully in them.
The result? Gracie is obsessed with high-heels.
She looooooves them.
In fact, this morning, when I dropped Jonah off at preschool, Gracie told Miss Jana (the receptionist) that she loved Jana's shoes.
I'm not joking.
Gracie actually pointed at Miss Jana's strappy metallic sandals and said, "lud er shooz" (love your shoes).

They hear what they want
On the way to a spring training game...
Jonah: My lips are dry.
Me: If you can wait until we get to the game, Papaw will probably have Chapstick. I bet he'll have bubblegum Chapstick.
Jonah: Papaw has Bubblegum?!
Gracie: BUBBLES?!

A Sampling...
of the questions Jonah's asked lately:
Will I live in a house with Gracie when I'm grown?
What makes dirt dirty?
Why is it cloudy but there's no rain?
Why is the street made out of rocks, but it's not bumpy?
Are these cookies for us, or is somebody sick?
When are the puppies in Lucy's tummy going to come alive?
Did you know Daddy when I was born?

Gracie: 19 months
Dr. Vargas gave us the latest stats at our last well-check:
Gracie's 22 lbs, putting her in the 25% for weight. I believe she was in the 50% for height. Pretty consistent with her past stats. She checked out just fine in all the developmental areas. We just need to get her completely off the bottle. Soon. (((sigh)))

In this last month Gracie has developed opinions. She would like to watch Signing Time while she drinks her milk, thank you. And if you don't understand what she's asking for, well then, she will just crumple in a boneless heap on the floor and cry the most pathetic cry you've ever heard. She would like the string cheese! Not the square cheese! Dadgummit people, can't you tell she means ORANGE, even when she asks for an APPLE? Sheesh!
I forget how much an 18 month old observes when no one's looking. Like, how to fold her arms just like Daddy. Or how to put lipstick on and smack her lips. How to put a violin under her chin, or buckle her own seatbelt. There's a new discovery everyday at this age!

The latest discovery? Gracie's fondness for broccoli. Observe...
