Little Pilot

Grandpa took Jonah to Dyess Air Force Base over Thanksgiving Break. They left the house at 10:00 and didn't get back until 2:00!

A friend of Grandpa's is a B-1 pilot and was able to get them some time in the B-1 flight simulator!

They weren't able to take cameras or phones inside, but Grandpa emailed me afterward...

[Jonah] was amazing at Dyess. He took instructions from Major Mincer so well and flew the B-1 on his own including some low level passes through the mountains around Hill AFB in Utah. He did roll overs, banked turns, pull ups, and dives. The atmosphere in the simulator was completely realistic. The view through the windshield was very high resolution scenery, clouds, etc. Jonah asked for rain, sand storm, lightning, and snow and got it all. Major Mincer was impressed that Jonah understood how to roll out of a turn! We were in there for 2 hrs with another of Major Mincer's friends taking the seat for the last half. I was really proud of him! The only thing missing was motion. They don't let civilians in the simulators with motion control turned on. I'm attaching a picture of a B-1 simulator like the one we were in. It may be the same one.
