Joys of the Week

Watching my 7 year old wrestle with his daddy. Hearing him giggle breathlessly while in a head lock, then try and karate chop his way out.

My 4 year old found sleeping under her baby sister's crib at 10pm.

Listening to Jonah and Gracie play Toy Story together on the xbox.
J: COME ON! Drop the alien and let's get outta this place!
G: WAIIIT! I can't leave my dragon!

a text from my accross-the-alley-neighbor:
you may already be aware, but it looks like there's a Barbie on your roof.

Sweet snuggles with my Evlyn...

Mama Bird Blessings

A sweet friend of mine from high school is now the wife of a pastor. She keeps an amazing, beautifully written blog, full of insight. Last year at this time, I stumbled onto her post about praying for her children who were returning to school. It struck a chord. I sat and wept as I read it, because I too had just knelt and prayed for my little 1st grader - fearful and anxious about what the year would bring. What she wrote brought me so much peace, I will pray it again for my little 2nd grader this Sunday night...

My birds are asleep in the nest, ready to fly away tomorrow.  And it's this hour that a Mama kneels and prays.  She prays that the small wings will be strong as they carry her precious ones into a world not always hospitable to young things.  She prays that His breath will blow, lifting them higher, above the reach of that which would entangle.  And she prays that they will fly safely home again.

Mama bird blessings:

August: Portrait

Since I spend so much time looking at Baby Evlyn nowadays, I'm often struck by how big Gracie suddenly seems.

Besides being a new big sister, she's had her first gymnastics class, graduated to the 4 year old Sunday School class, and visited the dentist for the first time. Braving all the changes beautifully.

I want to soak up every second with this precious girl...

Stop Sayin' That!

In the interest of keepin' in real...I want to document some of the naughtiness going on in Cheesemyhead Land.

Potty words are out of control. OUT. Of. Control.

They started 2 years ago, with kindergarten, but at that time the boy was our only potty mouth. Then 1st grade commenced, and the boy got plenty of laughs from his classmates with his potty humor, so the potty words came home again and SISTER picked them up. We also added tattling to the naughty list. Along with a few more choice words. Like "stupid" and "hate". And lovely sayings like, "I'm gonna beat you up". Ahhh, public school :P

They bounce the potty words off of each other and laugh hysterically while I drive them from point A to point B in the car and can't crack heads together. *SIGH*

Just for the record: I WILL pull this car over.

The Watermelonater

This child has eaten 2 WHOLE watermelons in 2 weeks. Almost in one sitting.
